Our services

What is dry van shipping?

Dry van shipping is the most common type of truckload freight, and it is what Apollo Freight Systems does every day. Your goods travel in a sealed, fully enclosed trailer built to move large volumes of products, freight, and equipment that do not need temperature control.

Because the trailer is closed off from rain, snow, road dust, and sun, the freight inside stays exactly the way it was loaded. That protection is where the name “dry” van comes from. Our 53ft trailers haul up to 45,000 lbs, with room for 26 standard pallet positions.

Important considerations

Dry vans cover most freight, but not all of it. Two things to keep in mind before you book.

Not temperature controlled

Dry vans are not refrigerated or heated. Frozen, chilled, or heat-sensitive products need a reefer trailer instead.

Humidity considerations

Most dry vans have wooden floors, so goods that are sensitive to high humidity should be packaged and palletized accordingly.

What shippers ask us most before booking their first load with Apollo.

What is dry van shipping?

Dry van shipping moves freight in a sealed, fully enclosed 53ft trailer that protects goods from rain, snow, road dust, and sun. It is the most common form of truckload freight and is ideal for palletized or boxed products that do not need temperature control.

How much freight fits in a dry van?

Our 53ft dry vans haul up to 45,000 lbs with room for 26 standard pallet positions, making them a fit for both full truckload and dedicated shipments.

What kind of freight is not a fit for a dry van?

Dry vans are not refrigerated or heated, so frozen, chilled, or heat-sensitive products need a reefer trailer instead. Most dry vans also have wooden floors, so humidity-sensitive goods should be packaged and palletized accordingly.
